Frequently asked questions
Intestinal flora
Humans and animals have large amounts of benevolent and useful bacteria. They provide a specific environment on the skin and in the intestines. In that way they displace harmful bacteria. Whether or not a dog attracts Escherichia coli (E-coli) through fresh meat or excrement is of no concern.
Escherichia coli is commonly present in the dog’s large intestine as part of the intestinal flora. But this bacterium may also suddenly turn bad and cause illness. This has to be kept in mind when a dog is frequently vomiting and has blood in its diarrhetic excrement. Especially pups of smaller breeds are prone to this.
