Back to raw meat dog foods? Dry food and meat in cans for cats and dogs have not been popular until the 1960s; prior to that, pet food was nothing but raw beef (tripe and internal organs) mixed with vegetables and leftover bread. Farm dogs were basically self-sufficient, eating ducks, rabbits and the like, and afterbirth of cows and fresh milk.
Preys
The dog’s stomach is geared towards eating and digesting prey, i.e. muscle tissue, organs, stomach contents (digested plants and grass) and bones. Wild family members of our domestic dogs (wolves, jackals, wild dogs) eat various animals, from poultry to ruminants. As a result they enjoy a varied and balanced diet with all natural vitamins, minerals en enzymes.

The dog digests almost 90% of the food, so nearly all nutrients are used – leaving very little in the form of excrement.
